Barry Manilow is taking over my life….

2008 at 13:15 pm by Jonny

Copacabana by Barry MannilowAs friends know I have a habit of whistling or singing the “Copacabana” by Barry Mannilow. I cant really explain where it came from and why i do it, but its been happening for about 4 years now.
Its kind of like the screen saver for my brain, hence when i am not doing anything it tends to be the thing that pops into my head. It is also something that happens when i am concentrating or am a little stressed, so it is pretty much taking over my live.

I have been having quite a stressful time recently as Leigh my girlfriend has finally convinced time that we can get the new kitchen we have been planning for the last 2 years. This though is not going according to plan and is causing daily high levels of stress, hence Barry is much more in my life…

I knew it got bad, when one of the guys that works for “Colin” asked me to do a posting on our test server for our community website. I couldn’t think of anything to post about, bearing in mind it is a test server, then along cam Barry again…

So while singing the wonderful (or not so) words to the “Copacabana” i re-wrote the first versus of the song in Colin’s favour, i called it the “Colincabana“:

His name was Colin, he was a developer
With yellow feathers in his hair and a dress cut down to there
He would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while he tried to be a star, James always played guitar!
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 9 till 5.30
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the PlusNet (PL!), PlusNet (PlusNet)
The hottest spot north of Sheffield (here)
At the Plus (PL!), PlusNet
Music and passion were always the fashion!

An if anybody is interested James is another developer that work in my team!

“RickRolling” - The latest tRick!

2008 at 15:20 pm by Jonny

Rick Astley in 2008Even though I was born in the 80s I am generally of the opinion that it has a lot to answer for, terrible hair, bad fluorescent colours and Rick Astley. Now the last time I heard anything about Rick Astley was when I bought an Album by DJ Yoda called “How to Cut and Paste: 80’s Edition” and that was several years ago now. All of a sudden recently Rick seems to have been making a bit of a comeback but not in the normal way that 80s popstars might do, but instead through a phenomenon called “RickRolling”.

So what is RickRolling?

Basically “RickRolling” consists of a user following a link to a page on a specific topic but are then confronted with a video of Rick Astley’s 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”

The UrbanDictionary describes it as the following:

Rick Roll
When what you think is a link to something you want to see actually directs you to a video of Rick Astley singing “Never Gonna Give You Up.” This is common in the WoW community.

Wikipedia describes where “RickRolling” comes from:

The song’s campy music video became the basis of an Internet meme known as “rickrolling”. It took its name from an anonymous message board meme known as “duckrolling”, a prank in which someone would post a blind link to a post, allegedly relevant to the discussion, that upon viewing would prove to be a non sequitur - specifically, an image of a duck on wheels. Similarly, in a rickroll a person provides a link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand which actually takes the user to the Rick Astley video. By May 2007 the practice had become widespread, and it eventually began to receive some coverage in the mainstream media.

Will this ever end?

Apparently this has been going on for over 6 months but it seems to have passed me by, I do however have a recollection of clicking a link and getting a video on YouTube of Rick Astley, but didn’t really think that much of it.

It was brought to my attention last night while watching the news on North West tonight (unfortunately I live in Derbyshire and would prefer to get Yorkshire but I get North West Telly) there was an item about “RickRolling” and how it is making Rick famous again. I presume they were focusing on it due to the fact he originates from Newton-le-Willows in Lancashire. (more…)

Wendy James I do Care!

2008 at 18:05 pm by Jonny

Wendy James - RacineI was listening the the Chris Moyles show this morning when they started talking about people who you had a crush on when you were a kid and how they changed when they older (potentially not being as attractive as they once were).

Then they mentioned one of my "Crushes" from being a kid which was Wendy James from Transvision Vamp. Now to my knowledge I think they only released one album which was called "Velveteen", which for some reason over the years I have owned in CD, Tape and Vinyl (I think I still have the Vinyl somewhere at my Mum & Dads house.

Anyway the point is that I hadn’t thought about here for quite sometime (not in that way…). the last thing I had heard about he was that she was in New York doing some kind of Art thing or something. So I decided to look her up on Wikipedia. To my surprise I found out that she has recently formed a new band called Racine, to quote Wikipedia: (more…)

Ever Fresh - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverI have been using Threadless to get my "Cool wears" for about 3 years now, much to the disgust of my missus as mine and her tastes sometimes differ quite substantially.

Anyway, I was on there this afternoon looking through the latest submissions. now I have done this before and only ever come a cross a couple of designs that I really liked one I cant find anymore for some reason and this one called "Ever Fresh" by Typeterror which i think is awesome to say the least! (please excuse my down with the kids type lingo…)

If you like me, then please do me the justice of voting for this t-shirt as I so want one and will only get one if it gets made!
